Call for Workshops and Tutorials - ACITA 2008 - Imperial College London SW7 2AZ. UK
Call for Workshops and Tutorials
In addition to the ACITA 2008 call for papers, submissions are invited for complementary activities. These are in line with the event objectives (see https://www.usukitacs.com/?q=home) and can be used to increase collaborators’ familiarity with background, scenario or technological themes.
The main conference runs Wednesday the 17th and 18th Thursday, September 2008. A key aspect of the ITA is developing the current and future research base for Networked Enabled Capability. Training researchers in the science and technology both underlying and developed through the ITA is an important contribution to that objective. Tuesday 16 September is allocated to a blend of workshops and tutorials as an ACITA event ancillary to the main conference. It is currently envisaged that these will be half-day sessions and run in parallel; we have capacity for six sessions (three in parallel in the morning and afternoon).
Workshops are orientated towards interactive activity where the focus is on a particular TA topic and are designed to be open to researchers at all levels. The remit of a workshop is broad and could involve a number people from outside of the consortium. Priority will be given to collaborative workshops that address cross TA topics and have interest indicated from multiple TAs.
Tutorials are orientated towards a didactic approach in which several mini-lectures are delivered around a common topic. These are designed to be suitable for those wishing to gain insights into an existing area of work. It could be that a Tutorial is organised by an ITA investigator but also features presenters from outside the consortium. Attendance is open as this is an ancillary activity.
Submissions for leadership and organisation of a Tutorial or a Workshop should include the topic to be discussed, the relevant ITA project areas, an indication of existing support for the theme, the nature of the intended audience and possible supporting presenters. Support will be given with the detailed organisation of these mini-events and all registrations will be handled centrally. Proposals have been received prior to the first call deadline for submissions. Further proposals for Workshops or Tutorials with around half a page of detail are sought by Friday 30th May.
The balance of workshops and tutorials will be guided by the response to this call. Discussions of prospective submissions are welcomed.
All submissions should be emailed to the ACITA 2008 General Chair, Michael Hill-King
